Welcome to a stay at Grønolen Mountain Farm, a sanctuary in picturesque surroundings. Local guides will take you hiking as you ascend well-known peaks like Knutshøe and Besseggen in Jotunheimen National Park. This is the perfect retreat for those who love mountain trekking but prefer not to venture out alone.

You will explore a mountainous region of Jotunheimen, known for its high peaks, rugged terrain, and alpine landscapes. Numerous lakes and rivers dot this area, adding to the scenic charm. The water reflecting the surrounding mountains, create stunning reflections on clear days.

Your hosts, Øyvind and Tor Erik, have crafted a rich itinerary that spans from summiting peaks in Jotunheimen to visits to summer farms. Grønolen is renowned for its hospitality and homemade meals. Arriving on Sunday and departing on Friday provides ample time to unwind and take in the beautiful scenery and cozy atmosphere.

A stay here is equally well-suited for solo travelers seeking tranquility or companions embarking on the journey together. It is suitable for people with a normal good level of fitness. You should be accustomed to walking in the mountains.

From there it goes steeper towards the top of Bitihorn, where we eat our lunch pack. After lunch, we go down the stairs ‘Bitihødntrøppe’ on the steep side of Bitihorn. Approx. 600 meters in altitude.

  • Day 3, Tuesday: Hike Mount Knutshøe (1517 m)

Knutshøe is one of our finest mountain hikes. It is varied and exciting. We start with a short walk on the marked path from the parking before we reach the ascent to the mountain. Some parties are a bit narrow and people sensitive to heights should mentally prepare for a challenge. Fortunately, you are looked after by experienced local guides. The tour follows the entire mountain ridge and returns along the foot of the mountain, to the south.

5-7 hours, medium / demanding trip.

  • Day 4, Wednesday: Hike to the top of Synshorn (1477 m). Lunch at a mountain summer farm.

From the mountain summer farm Hålistølen, we start by following a sandy moraine. It’s a little steep in the beginning. We make short breaks and enjoy the view. Eventually, we reach the summit of Synshorn and enjoy splendid views towards Lake Bygdin with the peaks in Jotunheimen National Park in a distance. Down trough the Fagerdalen valley.
At our old mountain summer farm, we are treated to a traditional dish of sour cream porridge and cured meat.

    3-4 hours hike, medium level

Instead of the hike, you can join a guided tour in Synshorn Via Ferrata, followed by lunch at a mountain summer farm with the rest of the group. Additional cost for the Via Ferrata is NOK 990.- (ordered and paid for at Grønolen).

  • Day 5, Thursday: Hike Jostigen and the Besseggen ridge

Jostigen is an old shortcut to get to famous Besseggen ridge.
We drive to Gjendesheim and walk along Gjende lake. Then we start our climb towards the ridge. We walk on a narrow path and rise 400 meters before we reach the main path along the Besseggen ridge. All the way we can enjoy the spectacular view of Jotunheimen National Park and the Gjende Lake. The last part of the tour follows the main path to the top of the ridge (1743 m) and back to Gjendesheim. You will never forget the feeling when you arrive at the Besseggen ridge, with a load of people, after climbing Jostigen almost without seeing anyone at all.
