Hike the King’s Road (Kongevegen) across Filefjell on a self-guided journey through some of Norway’s most historic mountain landscapes. Built in the 1790s, the road connected Eastern and Western Norway and is now one of the country’s finest historic hiking routes.
History and Mountain Scenery
The route combines mountain landscapes with remarkable examples of historic road construction. Walk along the dramatic Vindhellavegen, with its steep gradients and tight bends, and visit the impressive Borgund Stave Church, one of Norway’s best-preserved medieval stave churches.
The route passes through valleys, mountain terrain and historic settlements, offering a varied hiking experience where nature and cultural heritage are closely connected.
Self-Guided Hiking with Everything Arranged
You hike independently and at your own pace, while we arrange the practical details. Your luggage is transferred between hotels, and organised transport connects the different hiking sections.
This allows you to enjoy the King’s Road without having to carry your luggage or work out the logistics between stages. Detailed route information helps you make the most of the historic sites, landscapes and viewpoints along the way.
A self-guided hiking holiday combining Norwegian history, mountain scenery and some of the country’s most remarkable historic roads.
