In beautiful landscape, on this self-guided hike in Jotunheimen, you will explore some of the best hiking trails in the area. Stunning scenery, rich flora, traditional accommodation and local food is just some of the highlights.

Your journey begins in Oslo, where you’ll enjoy an overnight stay before setting off on a scenic bus ride to the charming Bygdin Høifieldshotel. Nestled beside a sparkling lake and surrounded by lush green mountains, this hotel offers the perfect base for two nights of relaxation and exploration. With several hiking trails nearby, you can choose from gentle walks to more adventurous treks in the heart of Jotunheimen National Park.

From Bygdin, continue your adventure with a boat cruise on Lake Bygdin, where the surrounding peaks are beautifully mirrored in the crystal-clear water. Next, hike through the legendary Svartdalen Valley, renowned for its dramatic landscapes and sweeping views of towering 2,000-meter summits. Your day ends at Gjendebu, the Norwegian Trekking Association’s oldest mountain lodge, perched at 995 meters above sea level. Known for its warm hospitality, traditional local cuisine, and unbeatable views of the emerald-green Gjende Lake, Gjendebu is a highlight for hikers and nature lovers alike.

Spend two nights at Gjendebu, giving you plenty of time to hike iconic trails such as the Gjendetunga viewpoint or the Bukkelægret round trip, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of mountains, glaciers, and alpine flora and fauna.

From here, trek through the scenic Veslådalen Valley, connecting the lakes of Bygdin and Gjende, and arrive at Eidsbugarden. Here you’ll overnight at Fondsbu, a beloved DNT cabin celebrated for its cozy atmosphere, hearty food, and panoramic mountain views.

The final stage of your Norway hiking tour takes you to Flåm, the gateway to Fjord Norway. Your adventure includes a spectacular 5-hour cruise on the world-famous Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Norway. From the sun deck or panoramic lounge, enjoy unforgettable views of steep mountainsides, cascading waterfalls, and picturesque fjord villages before arriving in Bergen. Conclude your trip with an overnight stay near Bergen’s historic waterfront, perfectly located for exploring Bryggen Wharf, Mount Fløyen, and other top attractions.

This self-guided hiking and fjord tour in Norway is ideal for solo travelers, couples, or groups. With flexible departure dates, pre-arranged accommodations, and detailed route planning, you can focus on the adventure while we take care of the logistics. Experience the very best of Norway’s mountains, valleys, and fjords on this unforgettable journey.

This tour can be combined with the Hardangerfjord Adventure from Bergen.

The local member associations of DNT operate 550 cabins across the country, mark routes and ski tracks. Together they maintain a network of about 22,000 km of marked foot trails and about 7000 km of branch-marked ski tracks. DNT activities are based on extensive volunteer work. Each year, volunteers work in total more than 800,000 hours. In southern Norway, the member associations have large staffed lodges and most other cabins are self-service. In Northern Norway, the member associations have only no-service cabins.

Everything went very smoothly.  The huts were far more comfortable than I imagined they would be.  The food was great, and of course the scenery was spectacular!  Everyone we met was very friendly. The hikes were stunning.

Thank you so much for a wonderful trip.  I have recommended your organization to anyone who is interested in going to Norway.
