Besseggen Hiking & Memurubu Base Stay

Departure from Oslo 10.20 to Gjendesheim.
The boat from Gjendesheim will take you to Memurubu, arriving 15.50.

After breakfast you have several options of hikes in the area.

If you plan to hike the Besseggen ridge all the way to Gjendesheim we recommend starting early, before everyone else arrives with the boat.. Besseggen is a long and demanding hike, so make sure you bring enough food and drinks for the day. Weather can change rapidly in the mountains, so enough clothes is also vital. Bear in mind you must make the afternoon boat from Gjendesheim (not included) back to Memurubu in the afternoon. 

If you think Besseggen is too long and demanding it is also possible to hike up to the viewpoint, and return to Memurubu for a shorter alternative.

After breakfast you have several options of hikes in the area.

If you did Besseggen yesterday, you can take the boat (not included) to Gjendebu today. From there you can walk Bukkelægret back to Memurubu. It has a steep ascent at the start, but well on top you will have a panoramic view of Jotunheimen. This hike is about 10 km long, and takes 5-6 hours.

Another option is mount Surtningssue (2386 masl) with a magnificent view from the top. This is a challenging hike, and takes about 10 hours. 

You can also hike to Sjugurdtinden, a round trip from Memurubu. You start with a steep ascent of about 500 meters, before you are rewarded with a fantastic view over Memurubu and the emreald green Gjende lake. Along the way, you will pass several fishing lakes. the return goes through the lush Memurudalen Valley. The round trip is about 13 km and takes 4-5 hours.

Breakfast and departure with the boat 09.30 or 09.55 (depending on weekday).
The bus arrives Oslo 14.45 or 18.35 (depending on weekday).

If you prefer to walk along the shoreline of lake Gjende to Gjendesheim, ask the hosts at Memurubu to assist you in sending your luggage with the boat. You must make the bus from Gjendesheim. The walk is about 10 km and takes 3-4 hours.

If you have extra time, waiting for the bus or the boat, they serve cold and warm small dishes, ice cream and snacks at the kiosk at Gjendeosen.
