Jotunheimen cross-country trail is stretching through gentle forest areas and rough mountain terrain, from the area north of Lemonsjøen, westwards to Gjende and the Jotunheimen National Park.
The tracks are always well prepared by machine or snowmobile and marked to ensure safety at all times.
If you are lucky, you can experience both reindeer and moose crossing the ski tracks. Take your time to enjoy the enchanting countryside and listen to the silence.

Most nights, you stay in traditional family-run mountain lodges. There you have plenty of time to explore the surroundings and enjoy the good mountain life. We also promise you some extraordinary food experiences. With access to Norwegian wild gems like reindeer, moose, deer, and trout, an authentic culinary adventure is waiting for you.
Along the way, you will also spend two nights in a cabin at Sjodalen Hyttetun. You can upgrade to one or two nights in a unique fairytale-like cabin  - once in a lifetime experience! Here you can also sign up for dog sledding on Thursday.

With luggage transfer - Without guide:
While you are out skiing, your luggage is transported to the next accommodation. You only have to bring a small backpack with extra clothes and food.
Although the trail is marked, you should be familiar with using maps in addition to the tour description.

  • Day 2 and 3, Monday and Tuesday: Lemonsjøen - Skiing in the area

Today you have the possibility to test the ski equipment and explore the terrain and tracks of Lemonsjøen. Enjoys pristine nature, quiet yet spectacular surroundings combined with local heritage. We recommend a trip around Lemonsjøen to kind of complete the Jotunheimen cross-country trail by getting to the area north of the lake, where it actually starts (14 km round trip.)

Lemonsjøen Fjellstue also offers Mountain Curling, a different kind of curling, that takes place on the lake Lemonsjøen. (Minimum 2 persons, additional fee.)

Dinner and accommodation at Lemonsjø Fjellstue & Hyttegrend.

  • Day 4, Wednesday: Ski from Lemonsjøen to Sjodalen Hyttetun, 19 km

Average day-trip through pine- and birch forest. During rough winter days, the forest areas provide cover and make the trip a pleasant experience. On this lap, you go up the valley, never very far from the main road through Sjodalen. You must cross the road a few times. There is not much traffic during the winter.
At Randsverk you pass through the community of small farms, and at Randsverk Camping you find a shop, a cafeteria and tourist information.

Dinner and accommodation in cabins or fairy tail huts at Sjodalen Hyttetun

  • Day 5, Thursday: Sjodalen - explore the area

We recommend joining a dogsledding adventure to experience Jotunheimen in a whole different way.
You can also go skiing across the valley or rent snowshoes for a walk in the woods.

Dinner and accommodation in cabins or fairy tail huts at Sjodalen Hyttetun

  • Day 6, Friday: Ski from Sjodalen Hyttetun to Bessheim, 25 km

Today you will spend most of the time on the east side of the valley and you’ll experience a more open terrain and views of the peaks in Jotunheimen National Park. You start following the river Sjoa. You can choose to go East or West of the lake Nedre Sjodalsvatnet. The east side is a bit longer, but much nicer. When you reach Øvre Sjodalsvatnet you go on the east side of the lake. At the intersection at Storhaugen, you turn right and go across the lake to Bessheim.

Dinner and accommodation at Bessheim Fjellstue & Hytter

  • Day 7, Saturday: Bessheim - Skiing in the area

We recommend a ski tour to Gjendesheim to kind of complete the Jotunheimen cross-country trail by getting to where it actually ends (12 km roundtrip).
You can also explore the Besseggen mountain ridge on skis or snowshoes. Besseggen is the most famous and spectacular route in Jotunheimen National Park. 60 000 people walk the Besseggen ridge every summer - only a few hundred during winter. Ask at the hotel, about the route description and snow conditions, before deciding to walk the actual ridge.

Dinner and accommodation at Bessheim Fjellstue & Hytter

    Hotel transfer from Bessheim.
