Trekking in Rondane National Park, with or without guide

This tour is on request, please contact us for information and booking

By Norwegians, the Rondane massif is one of the most beloved hiking areas in the country.  Rondane National Park is an ideal place to experience the mountains and highlands of Eastern Norway. This was the first National Park in Norway, listed in 1962. Today, it covers an area of almost 1,000 square kilometres.

Within the Park you find ten peaks that reach beyond 2,000 meters above sea level. Not all of them are reachable on this tour, but from Mysuseter you can hike some. The fittest actually make six summits in one day. At Høvringen you are in the highlands, where the mountains are easier to climb, and the landscape calls for peace and meditation. From the mountain Formokampen you have great view of the Rondane massif, and from there you can proudly point out the places you've been.

When you switch accommodations, from Mysuseter to Høvringen, your luggage is transferred, so that you can enjoy the hike with just a light daypack.
After a strenuous day of hiking, you can relax in a comfortable hotel, and enjoy a tasty dinner based on local ingredients, while allowing today's adventures to sink into your mind.

Most of the tours are self-guided, with luggage transport, and you decide for yourself, how long and steep you want to go.
You get maps from us, and we have set up some suggestions for you.

In Rondane, this is one of the easiest peaks to klimb, but it is a long hike, and parts of the trail is covered in stones.
The hotel offers transfer the first kilometers to Spranget, at the border of Rondane National Park.
From here you walk 6 km of gravel road to Rondvassbu Mountain Lodge (about 1.5 hrs.).

Day 3 - Tuesday:
Climb the summit of Storronden (2138 m.a.s.l.)
This is the second highest peak in Rondane. It is relatively free of difficulties and quite accessible. This hike starts out just like the one to Veslesmeden. You have to get to Rondvassbu Mountain Lodge first. From there you have a long hike, partly on trails covered in stones. When you get to the summit you'll have magnificent views of Rondane, and in clear weather also Jotunheimen. Going back we recommend taking the path along the river, Ula.

If you do not want to climb mountains, you can just make the trip to Rondvassbu Mountain Lodge, and walk along the river on your way back to the hotel. About 10 km each way, in easy mountain terrain.
Dinner and accommodation at Rondane Høyfjellshotell.

Day 4 - Wednesday:
Hike from Mysuseter to Høvringen. The trail passes The Peer Gynt Cabin. About 20 km (6-7 hours).
